Gintong Butil (golden grain) is an offshore outreach project to distribute rice to families in the Philippines who have been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and super typhoons ‘Rolly’ (Goni) and ‘Ulysses’ (Vamco). With Ms. Alma Armada and Mr. Jun Cacayuran as the main organizers, the project is composed of 46 organizations throughout Canada. Barangay Canada is proud to be among its media partners. Interested donors and supporters are invited to contact +1-403-497-4483 or +1-403-708-7224 for inquiries.
Conceptualized on October 16, 2020 by the Filipino Organization in the Rocky Mountains (FORM) during an outreach in Red Deer, AB, the project started out with several Filipino groups, institutions and individuals. To date, the list of participating organizations keeps growing, thanks to the Filipino spirit of Bayanihan.
Individual organizations are empowered to manage their rice distributions in the Philippines under the Gintong Butil project. In these trying times, the organizers are rallying the Filipino-Canadian community to unite so that our kababayans in our home country will receive much needed help. Maraming salamat at mabuhay ang diwa ng Bayanihan!
