Kababayan Christine Joyce Vega has now been granted a work permit, her lawyer Luke McRae announced today. She is the Ontario-based ICU nurse who was set to be deported later this month for inadvertently missing the payment of the $100 fee for her immigration paperwork.
Learning about Vega’s case from media articles of Nicholas Keung of the Toronto Star and Ted Alcuitas of Philippine Canadian News, Surrey-based community activist Narima Dela Cruz (inset) reached out to McRae and helped by amplifying Vega’s case through her contacts, among them MP Salma Zahid, Minister Deb Schulte and Minister Ahmed Hussen.
