The 2025 Canadian federal election will be held on April 28 to elect members of the House of Commons to the 45th Canadian Parliament.
As part of efforts to mobilize immigrant communities ahead of this pivotal vote, Barangay Canada co-founder ‘Kabarangay Kris’ Ontong has been tapped by Elections Canada and Immigration Partnership Winnipeg’s Got Citizenship? Go Vote! initiative to record a Tagalog public service announcement encouraging voter participation.
Got Citizenship? Go Vote! is a non-partisan civic engagement campaign aimed at empowering naturalized Canadian citizens—especially within Winnipeg’s immigrant and refugee communities—to take part in municipal, provincial, and federal elections.
Recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for Community Service, Ontong understands the importance of civic participation, especially in times of change. “With trade tensions, rising costs, housing challenges, and shifting global alliances, this election will shape our families’ future, our economy, and Canada’s role in the world,” he said. “The Filipino-Canadian community has long contributed to this country—now, let’s make our voices heard!”
