Three Filipino-Canadians and a past guest of this site’s video podcast are among the 75 finalists of this year’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards in an announcement yesterday on the awards website.
The kababayan finalists are Joy Abasta, a community health manager in Vancouver; Edward Cruz, Ph.D, a registered nurse and academic based in Windsor; and Ann Pornel, an actor/comedian in Toronto.
Also included among the honorees is environmental conservationist Maggie Lee of the World Wildlife Foundation who appeared in an episode of the Barangay Canada vodcast in October of 2020.
Now marking its 15th year, the annual event held by the Canadian Immigrant magazine is touted as “the only national awards program that celebrates the achievements of inspiring Canadian immigrants.”
The field of 75 will be narrowed down to the Top 25 candidates who earn the most online votes that supporters can cast through https://canadianimmigrant.ca/canadas-top-25-immigrants/vote.
Voting will be open until June 9th, 2023, and is limited to once per email address. Each vote may select up to 3 candidates.
