Profile Overview
Kris Ontong is the co-founder of Barangay Canada and host of its vodcast. A passionate advocate for community engagement, he was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for Community Service, following a nomination by the Honourable Senator Flordeliz (Gigi) Osler. In 2019, he was recognized at the National Filipino-Canadian Heritage Event and was a finalist for Excellence in Community Service at the 3rd Golden Balangay Awards, a nationwide recognition of outstanding Filipinos in Canada. The following year, Kris was named among the 75 finalists for the Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards, one of the country’s most prestigious honours for newcomers.
With his extensive experience in community engagement, marketing and communications, Kris accepted a position at the House of Commons of Canada in 2021 as Executive Assistant to Kevin Lamoureux, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg North. Most recently, Kris became Project Manager for Immigration Partnership Winnipeg, a federally-funded initiative to establish community-level support for newcomers and refugees to help them thrive and contribute to the city’s social and economic fabric.
