In the city often teased as ‘Winterpeg, Manisnowba,’ there is no shortage of winter activities that take advantage of the abundant white stuff.
From traversing the frozen Red River Trail, admiring the ice sculptures in the downtown area, or taking in the snow sculptures of Festival Du Voyageur, residents have learned to make the most of the frigid season’s ice and snow.
Another annual event is The Last Snowman Winnipeg Contest which combines the fun and creativity of snowman-building with the serious concern about global warming and climate change caused by human activity.
In the accompanying video, event co-organizer Cristina Mapuyan explains the goal behind the event, how to send an entry, and the cash prizes that are up for grabs. The poster below also summarizes the key details of the contest.
The annual event is organized by The Sweet Sorrow Snowman Foundation which aims to raise awareness about global warming.
