Invitations to apply for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) would be sent out this week to interested potential sponsors, according to a news release posted Tuesday on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.
The PGP opens once a year and makes it possible for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada. For this year, IRCC reported that its goal is to accept 15,000 complete applications for PGP sponsorship.
The announcement also stated that the invitations to apply will be sent to a random selection of potential sponsors who previously submitted an Interest to Sponsor form in 2020. IRCC explains that this is due to the number of interest to sponsor forms remaining in the pool of submissions from 2020.
Those who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply in January 2021 or September 2021, are encouraged by IRCC to check the email account that they provided when they submitted their interest.
IRCC also advised those who did not receive an invitation to apply this year but are seeking to reunite with their parents and grandparents in Canada, to consider having them apply for a super visa, which is a multiple-entry visa that is valid for 10 years.
