The first half-hour episode of Barangay Canada on Shaw Spotlight features the kickoff of Filipino Heritage Month 2023 at the Manitoba Legislature. Last week, a teaser clip was posted that mentioned that the full-length speeches of guest speakers will be featured on the program.
Among those who spoke at the lunchtime event were the Filipino Journal’s Ron Cantiveros, School Trustee Dante Aviso, Sports, Culture and Heritage Minister Obby Khan, Honorary Philippine Consul Ronald Opina and Perla Javate, president of the Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba (PHCM), Inc., the umbrella organization tasked with organizing events that celebrate and share Philippine culture and heritage. The episode also includes a performance from Krissy Torres accompanied by pianist Jett Russel Panganiban.
